Year in Review: York is finding overseas success in distributing pictures that have all-African-American casts by using hip-hop soundtracks. Her international sales division was launched in June 2001 and is already the No. 1 supplier of urban product worldwide. The company’s sell-through division, which launched in January, currently has sales exceeding one million units.
Back Story: Jamaican-born York produced her first film at 19, before starting her own production company in 1990.
