MicroArt Vitiligo Camouflage FAQ’s

The answers to these questions apply for MicroArt only.

MicroArt is proprietary, unique, and unlike any other permanent or semi-permanent cosmetic treatment in the market today. It was scientifically developed to look natural — and avoid the many unpleasant or dangerous side effects all too common with other forms of permanent makeup or microblading. (50% of MicroArt clients are repairing bad permanent makeup done elsewhere)

The goal is to match the color, over the course of your treatments, so that no one can tell that you ever had vitiligo.

Color matching is achieved through the series of sessions during which the color is evaluated and your custom color mix is fine-tuned as needed. About two weeks after each procedure, the skin exfoliates and the color settles in so we re-evaluate and adjust in a subsequent session as needed.

The Color: Your technician will evaluate your skin color at the beginning of each session and choose a color or custom blend a color to match your skin tone.

Pigmentation: MicroArt Semi Permanent Makeup uses a single acupuncture needle that gently vibrates on the dermal layers of the skin depositing a mineral-based pigment into the skin and blending the pigment into the skin during each session until the vitiligo is completely camouflaged and the skin tone matches. This usually takes four (1-hour) sessions per 9 square inch (3”x3”) area.

YES! MicroArt has been used to camouflage vitiligo and other skin discolorations for over 6 years with amazing results on all clients. There are no known side effects and it is 100% safe to apply to people with vitiligo.

There will be some swelling and redness right after your treatment. This will take several days to disappear depending on what area of the body, how heavy we apply the pigment and the general health of the skin.

Right after your procedure, the color will appear harsher compared with how it is intended to look. After a few days, the skin will slightly exfoliate and the color will become lighter. It is important that you keep the procedure area clean and moisturized by only using MicroArt after-care products – which we provide to you at no additional cost.

No makeup should be worn on the area of skin that was pigmented for 7 days after each session.

The price starts at $2,500.00 and includes:

  • Four (1-hour) sessions and can camouflage 9 square inches (3”X3”) of skin.
  • Free After-care products.
  • Additional touch-up sessions are $600 per 1-hour session.
  • Numbing shots can be scheduled with the doctors that we work with and are an additional cost if needed.

In order to become a new client, we require photos so that we can evaluate your individual needs based on size, color, and area of the body. We will create a personalized treatment plan, which includes an estimated cost, number of sessions needed and schedule of treatments.

The level of discomfort varies from person to person depending on what area of the body that is being camouflaged. A strong topical numbing cream is used.

MicroArt uses a single acupuncture needle that gently vibrates on the outer dermal layers of the skin, therefore discomfort is minimal.

Numbing shots can be scheduled with the doctors that we work with and are an additional cost.

Numbing shots are required when we work on hands, as they are the most sensitive area of the body. In addition, recommended if we are working on procedures taking more than 3 hours at a time.

Maintenance appointments are optional. If you do not maintain MicroArt, it will completely fade away over time.

Everyone maintenance schedule is different based on the area of the body and how fast the skin exfoliates.

Some clients come in every few months for touch-up sessions and some only need to come in annually.

  • Arrive at your appointment 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment, well rested and relaxed.
  • If you wear makeup on the area that is being camouflaged.  Please remove it prior to your appointment so that you can get the most out of the time during your session.
  • Please do not wear light-colored clothing over the area that will be camouflaged as the skin might sweat a little pigment afterward.

Lidocaine injections can be provided if scheduled in advance. They are administered by a nurse or doctor who is scheduled on certain days. There is an additional cost for injections. Please call for current prices.

Lidocaine injections are mandatory when we work on hands, as they are very sensitive. All other areas are at your discretion.

We do not recommend this as lasers can lighten the pigment. MicroArt is your final solution and you will not need any other treatment as we can fully camouflage the desired area leaving lasers unnecessary. If you are in the middle of a treatment, we recommend finishing the treatment and start MicroArt when completed to finish the camouflaging in the area.

When your skin tans, the mineral-based pigment applied to the skin will not change color or tan with the surrounding skin.

We advise our vitiligo clients to maintain a constant skin color throughout the year so that their MicroArt makeup will maintain the best color match for as long as possible. However, some clients will schedule a maintenance appointment around the time that they get a tan in early summer so that we can match their MicroArt to that tanned skin color. As the tan lightens up a bit during the winter, MicroArt will gradually fade a little so that it will also lighten up.

No, salt water does not affect the results or how long it last. It will not change the color of your pigments.
